Here’s something I want to impress upon you: if you want to build a following of your ideal music students so you can make passive income, you better have a website.

As opposed to what you may ask?

Just a YouTube channel, just an Instagram account, a podcast platform, or someone else’s blog.

You don’t own YouTube, you don’t own Facebook, but you do own your website.

Your website needs to be the home base that you operate out of. You may have a podcast on iTunes or a YouTube channel, but all of the content should also live on your website under the umbrella of your music education brand.

This episode is inspired by a question I got from a podcast listener who asked, “When should I build a website to go along with my YouTube channel?”

The short, quick answer is now.

I talk about 3 reasons why you should have a website as a home base to run your music education business. I also talk about what kinds of important pages you should have on your site, and what exactly should be on those pages.

In this episode:

1. Three reasons why you need a website as a home base.

2. How ownership of your website is building the right kind of asset.

3. How your website is the place you can organize your content and create a user experience.

4. How your website should be the portal for your music students to take desired actions, such as building your mailing list or buying products.

5. Key components of your website home page.

6. Key components of your top navigation menu.

7. Key components of your content delivery pages.

8. Key components of your Start Here page.

There is a lot of information in this episode that may lead you to believe that your website needs to be perfect.

The truth is, the most important thing is to start. Don’t let perfection hold you back. I myself continually tweak my website to improve it and make it work better.

Keep these key components of your music education website in mind, and you’ll be off to a great start.
